No Time Like Now by Jennifer Young

Life’s all about choices. Sometimes we make the right one and sometimes… sometimes we don’t. In my first novel, Thank You For The Music, my heroine Abby was faced with the choice between handsome, rich, reliable Edward and lazy, charming Rafa. In my current work, No Time Like Now, Megan is faced with an altogether difficult choice.

This time her problem is that she has to choose between Tim, the man she used to love, and Álvaro, the man she’d very much like to love. Tim was her man and, as the song goes, he done her wrong, abandoning her when she was pregnant.

Álvaro, on the other hand, is everything you might look for — kind, caring, thoughtful sensitive…oh and with the added pluses that he’s extremely handsome and all too obviously dripping with wealth.

In romantic suspense nobody is what they seems. The characters — along with the writer and the reader too — have to decide who’s good and who’s bad, who’s wrong and who’s right, who’s honest and who’s crooked.

In Megan’s case (and, it turns out, Tim’s too) the problem is not one of attraction or even love because both acknowledge that’s what’s between them, if it isn’t love, certainly used to be. The problem they have is that they both have something to forgive — though without giving away the plot twist I can’t tell you what that is.

Without wishing to get too heavy (after all, the book is essentially a romance) forgiveness is an increasing theme in my writing because it’s often a difficult thing for individuals to achieve — either in terms of offering or acceptance. And difficult things lead people to make mistakes which have far-reaching consequences.

A great part of Álvaro’s attraction for lonely (and angry) Megan is that he offers her a new start, a relationship which isn’t littered with betrayal and misunderstanding.  With forgiveness so difficult (and the minor complication of Tim in a new relationship with someone she perceives as prettier and cleverer than she is) she desperately wants to move on and leave him behind.

The man who used to be the one of your dreams, or the man who might really turn out to beThe One? The man who is difficult but who you know to be rewarding, or the one who makes you life easier. Who would you choose?

Excerpt

No, no. Domenica  came into the dining room the long way round rather than through the lounge so that she didnt have to open the door. But Tims voice, crackling with enthusiasm, nevertheless carried clearly through to us. Nothing like that. Theres someone here whod like to speak to you.

Oh? I looked up warily. Someone to speak to you wasnt a phrase that usually filled me with delight. These days not many surprises were pleasant.

She ushered a young man through the door and flapped her hands at him. This is Álvaro Machado. Hes from the Policia Nacional, but dont let that worry you. He and I know each other well. She smiled at him and he offered a charming smile back. ‘Álvaro, this is Megan.

Well. Look at this. Álvaro Machado, I may not know you, but wow. Surely this hormonal thunderbolt was no policeman  what else could he be but a film star in the making? Tall, dark and handsome beyond the point of cliché, his smile was wide and his teeth white, his eyes flashing and soulful and fixed on my face. If Id wanted a romantic panacea to soothe an aching soul, Id have struggled to invent one as tailor-made as this.

Oh, Tim would hate that. With almost undignified haste, I extended my hand and smiled. Hi, Álvaro.

Megan. Delighted. He lifted my hand and his lips brushed my fingers.

Sit down, Álvaro. Domenica fussed about him just as she did over me. Beer?

Never on duty. He kept looking at me, and raised an enquiring eyebrow. He had the look about him of a man who loved life.

I dont suppose you want a beer, do you, Megan? In the background, Domenica continued the relentless assertion of her hospitality. Coffee, maybe?

No thanks. When at last Id pulled myself together enough to drag my eyes from his face, I took in that he wasnt in uniform but instead dressed impeccably in beige chinos and a blue open-necked shirt. Goodness, not just good looks but understated style to go with it. And by the look of the ensemble, there was money there, too.

Compete with that, Tim Stone.

About No Time Like Now

Hiding away from a disastrous past, Megan McLeod is getting along nicely in her job as housekeeper at a university field centre in Majorca. But the arrival of geological researcher, Tim Stone, throws everything into disarray — because Tim was the father of the baby she lost some years before and the two of them had parted very messily indeed.

As if having Tim on the scene wasnt bad enough, he's there with his new partner, Holly. But when in the course of his research he comes upon something extremely nasty along the cliffs of north Majorca, hes forced to turn to Megan for help.

Blurb

He’ll teach her to love her body…one spanking at a time.

Brienna Morgan has worked hard to look good. Ten years ago she stuck to the shadows, watching the popular kids, wishing she could be one of them. But when they weren’t calling her cruel names, nobody noticed the smart overweight girl with the glasses.

So when she braves her high school reunion and runs into KadeMcBride, the boy she loved from afar, the last thing she wants is for him to remember her. It’s bad enough she still sees that girl every time she looks in the mirror. But Kade does remember—and he makes it impossible for Brie to refuse to go out with him. She’s not convinced it’s a good idea, but she can’t pass up the opportunity to be part of the in crowd.

Kade had no desire to go to his high school reunion. As far as he’s concerned, he’d rather forget those days. Especially the day he screwed up and left his best friend to pay the ultimate price. But when he sees the gorgeous woman enter the gym, he’s immediately drawn to her. Regardless of her claims that she’s not the girl he thinks he remembers, Kade realizes maybe he’s been given a second chance to right at least one wrong from his past. And he’s determined not to throw this opportunity away, even if he has to tie Brienna to a spanking bench to prove his point.

When the song ended, she tried to step away, but he refused to release her and instead tightened his hold, sliding smoothly into the next dance. His behavior shocked him. He kept his hips tipped slightly away. It was an awkward position and it put a strain on his back, but better that than have her feel his erection pressed to her stomach.

Brienna?” he murmured next to her ear.

“Yeah?”

“You were the pretty girl who always hung back near the edge of the crowd.”

He heard her intake of air. She shook her head and stiffened, then tried to withdraw, but he held tight, this time close enough she had to feel his cock. His fingers caressed the dip at the bottom of her spine. She trembled.

“You used to watch me. I remember I envied how smart you were, how attractive.”

She pushed out a harsh laugh. “I already told you, Kade, you’re mixing me up with somebody else.”

“It’s not too late, you know.” His lips brushed the shell of her ear.

“Too late?” she squeaked.

“To get to know the people you went to school with.”

She placed her hands flat on his chest and pushed. “Let me go, Kade. Please.”

“Why?”

“Because I asked you to.”

Kade dropped his arms to his sides.

She took two solid steps away from him and clutched her hands in front of her. “Thank you for the drink and the dance, but I need to…to leave. Excuse me.”

“But you just got here.” He mentally kicked himself for coming on so strong and scaring her off, especially when there could be nothing between them other than two would-be friends reconnecting.

She closed her eyes, bit her lip, and then opened them and looked straight at him. “I just think it’s time for me to leave.”

She navigated her way back to their table. Kade followed, taking in the other couples dancing, the people laughing and reminiscing. Groups were gathered around photo collages set up around the room. A photo booth in the corner had a long line of people waiting to have their pictures taken with old friends while wearing silly hats and glasses.

When she reached the table she snatched up her purse and turned to him. “I’m sure there are plenty of people here who you do know,” she said. “The people you were actually friends with.” Her gaze dropped to the floor. “Maybe the person you’re actually looking for is here somewhere.” She focused on him one last time and then glanced at something over his shoulder. “In fact, it looks like one of your old friends has spotted you, and she seems to be anxious to talk to you.” She nodded her head in the direction they’d come from. “Thank you for the dance, Kade.”

Kade swung around, hoping to dissuade whoever was coming up behind him. Kim glided across the room, a look of determination on her face.

When he spun back to Brienna, she was gone.

“My God, you are so fucking sexy.”

Brie sighed and tipped her head back on the pillow, trying to see his facial features in the shadows. “You like?” She pitched her voice low, hoping to come across sultry, like the vixen she’d always wanted to be, then held her breath waiting for his response, anxious for his appraisal.

The man lowered his large body over hers, caging her between his arms. His muscular calves brushed along the outside of hers. He held most of his weight above her, but she reveled in the heat coming off him. With a slight bend of his arms, he leaned down close to her ear and growled, sending a shiver of desire rolling through her.

He nipped her earlobe. “Oh, yeah, baby. I like. A lot.”

He stroked his tongue along the outer rim of her ear, dipped in and swirled around. Even though she couldn’t see him well in the dark, she knew him. Knew all about him. Wanted every inch of him.

His warm breath fluttered over her face. She let her eyes drift closed as she rolled her head to the right, pressing her chin into the pillowcase, giving him better access.

He trailed that wet tongue of his down to the spot on her neck, right smack in the middle between her ear and the slope of her shoulder, the one spot that after all these nights he knew drove her crazy. His mouth opened, heat scorched her skin, and his lips latched on. He stilled and she held her breath in anticipation. He sucked and she arched into the exquisite sensation, while fighting the instinctive urge to pull away before it became too much.

His weight dropped down, pinning her hips in place. She’d waited for this, wanted it forever.

“I’m going to eat you up, baby,” he whispered roughly. “This tiny scrap of lace you’re wearing is gorgeous and highlights your sweet nipples and luscious breasts, never mind your hot-as-hell pussy. But I’m going to strip it away faster than you can blink and lick every sweet spot on your body. I’m going to tie you in knots, fuck you hard and fast until it’s only me your body craves. No other man, Brienna. This is all mineYou are all mine.”

“Yes.” She gasped as he returned to his mark on her neck and increased the pressure. “Yours. All yours.”

She whimpered when he drew away to place kisses down in the valley between her breasts, his face buried between the generous mounds, near, yet so far from her rigid nipples.

Then he paid those nipples homage. He teased each one, moving between them, tempting them. Leaving them wanting, begging for attention. Like two little soldiers they stood straight and tall, poking through the lace she’d spent a small fortune on, eager for his praise. Some things were worth the sacrifice.

He made them wait. Instead he lavished an assault down the inside of her left arm, stopping at the crease of her elbow to lick and suck, leaving tiny love bites, marks she’d happily wear.

He continued his journey until he reached her hand. While she watched, he sucked each finger, one by one, deep into the warmth of his mouth. His tongue swirled around the digit, lapping at the web of skin between each and then leaving the gentlest of kisses on the very tip of each before he moved on to the next. Even though his face remained in the shadows, she sensed his eyes focused on her the entire time.

He treated her other hand with the same dedication and then started down her legs.

Brienna squirmed.

“Stay still, Brienna.” He chuckled, a low, dangerous but oh-so-sexy rumble. “Or I’ll have to start all over.”

Author Bio

Shoes are her addiction, but books are her passion.  Anne Lange grew up with a love for reading. If you take a close look, she’s got either a book, her Kindle or her Kobo—maybe all three—tucked into her bag or a pocket when she leaves the house. You know, just in case there’s time to sneak in a chapter or ten.  Anne reads many genres of romance, but prefers to write sexy stories, often with a dash of humor, and usually with a side of those sinful pleasures your mom never told you about.

Oh, and always a happily ever after.

While embarking on this wild journey of becoming a romance author, Anne juggles a full time job and a family. Not always successfully. Who needs a clean house every day?  And what’s wrong with cereal for dinner? She lives in Ontario, Canada with her wonderfully supportive husband, three awesome kids who are growing up way too fast, and Rocky the bearded dragon.
